THE GOOD MADNESS (2020)
BEHIND THE ALBUM
Fun fact: the cardboard boxes in the background are referenced in the lyrics of Love in the Time of Coronavirus.
CONCEPT & PROCESS
Writing started in November 2019. The main goal was just to make some solid, fun songs as fast as possible without overthinking, which for me is way easier said than done.

The first five tracks were written, played, and recorded in less than a week at the end of 2019, going from nothing to near completion in a few hours a piece. There was a decent amount of alcohol involved in the process, and a lot of the playing and mixing was kind of rough.
The melody and chords of Three's A Crowd were pulled from an older demo, but it ended up being probably the most standout track on the album. Most of the other ideas began by messing around on the guitar until something sounded cool enough to record, and then throwing humorous, self deprecating lyrics on them.

Everything about The Good Madness is a work in progress - not just the writing, playing, and mixing, but also the identity of it. To this day, I'm still trying to figure out what artistic statement I'm trying to make, and what I want my music to sound and feel like. I was definitely not there yet when I made TGM, but it felt good to get my first whole album together under this new project. Although there's a lot that my perfectionist ass would have fixed if I were to go back and do it again, all in all I'm proud that I did it, and I guess even the stuff that I don't like is good too because that way I can know what I want to change in the future.

Thanks for listening as I continue on this weird journey.
